Garden Week 2012

Gardens from Eden, in partnership with Melville Nurseries, took out two awards at Garden Week 2012 for the Most Innovative Display' and the overall top award for the Best Landscape Display' at the show.   Titled A Touch of French Romance' the garden was based on the French inspired romantic garden Le Jardin de Rose' at Melville Nurseries, previously designed by Gardens from Eden.

Aimed to inspire the public, the garden showcased how to add some French flair into a garden using colour, texture, seasonal interest, layering and focal points.  This was achieved by nestling classical statuary and urns in amongst a mass of roses, annuals and colourful vegetables including lettuce varieties in the potager style' which enthralled and captivated visitors. Ornate pergolas, arbors and a three tier flower fountain drew people into the decadent display featuring two romantic garden rooms and a retail area.

The entry into the first room was framed with rusted urns and colourful roses. A three tier fountain adorned with pink water lilies added sophistication and tranquility to the garden. The garden was bordered with a hedge of Radermachera Summerscent' and pleached snow pears, forming a canopy above and partially screening the garden within.  The Radermachera caused a stir' with the public, eager to know what it was called. Classic Urbanstone French limestone paving lead to an ornate metal pergola and into the second garden room adorned with statuary and urns from Colonial Sandstone

This second room was again bordered with Summerscent' hedges, Gingko biloba and purple leaved plums providing structure and additional colour to the Potager' planting below.  The gardens were edged with sandstone pond surrounds or edging that added formality and style and provided the public with a new' concept to edge their vegetable beds with at home. A central Formstone marbled flower fountain adorned with annuals, vegetables, dahlias and roses created a unique and show stopping centerpiece to the room'. An exquisite arbour and seats allowed the public to stop and smell the roses' in this idyllic setting.  An ornate white pergola over the exit to the garden inspired many visitors to add just a touch of French romance into their own gardens.

The response from the public to the display was overwhelming, with comparisons drawn with the displays at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.. Overall Garden Week has continued to improve and Rob Palmer from Better Homes and Gardens was once again a big drawcard.  For more information on the garden go to www.gardensfromeden.com or check us out on Facebook.
